Some of the reviews
Agne Biliunaite about Female link
Cultural attache of the Embassy the Republic of Lithuania in China, performing arts critic, poet, novelist
"From the first moment on stage we are greeted by an interplay of light and darkness which is a recognizable characteristic of this artist. Parts of the body, illuminated by bright spotlights, suddenly disappeared and immersed in the darkness of the shadow. The darkness turned into a heavy, thick and opaque nothingness which later was thinned by light. Dancer‘s moving body blended and joined the light and darkness into one existence.
...the dancer Dievaityte was showing higher body control pilotage by deforming and transforming the normal perception of a female body, breaking stereotypes and subtly extending movement vocabulary. Sometimes it gave the impression that she separates the extremities from torso and puts them together by her surreal logic. Sometimes it seemed as if someone was playing her muscles like keys obtaining weirdest chords."
The Skinny Magazine about Flesh link
Journal of Culture, UK
"The sheer beauty of Flesh is in its uncompromising minimalism. The back view of two torsos are lit in chiaroscuro like a Caravaggio or a Bill Brandt photo of the 'Nude as Landscape'. With no individuality we become more conscious of the abstract shapes that their bodies make as they extend an elbow, or a leg but never the head. The weird compositions the two make together are mesmerizing ****"
Kafehauzas magazine about Flesh link
Journal of Culture, Lithuania
"Warm light was licking darkness from slowly wriggling bodies, sometimes uncovering and sometimes plunging back to nonexistence mythological creatures, weird headless beings, coming to life in our eye retina and convincing the brain of their realness....Creative girls tandem, with boldly denuded bodies were spreading magic on stage and particularly photogenic corporeal beauty spell....The performance was subtle, creative and had a great flight of imagination."
Justina Kiursinaite about Anhelo link
Dance critic, Lithuania
"The piece Anhelo is a delicate visual poem flavoured with several sharper movements and dedicated to intimacy. By enriching the work with subliminal and sensual images, and by transferring the audience from subconscious to everyday life, these choreographers developed an artistic form that guides us from our inner world into the outside. In this way they showed that there is no need to be afraid of our sensual nature, of intimate relationship with another human and accept all the challenges that appear within it with an open heart."
Personal comment of Marcial Rodríguez about Anhelo
Coordinator of Centro Danza Canal, Spain
"Anhelo is a choreographic piece with a huge personality - very physical and very touching at the same time - which the spectator contemplates as if a curtain was being ripped and everything that is hidden behind started to come out by that small opening. I experienced the piece as a story interwoven by two characters who struggle to meet each other while trying to find themselves, allowing to become visible in the process what they actually enclose."
Personal comment of Stacz Wilhelm about Flesh
Head of productions & managements sale of Korzo dance house, Netherlands
"When performing their own choreography, Ugne Dievaityte and Poliana Lima are able to open up dance and to show us the body in its immediate quality. With them, nakedness becomes radically multi-layered, oscillating between infinite vulnerability and the clarity of sculptural form. One is tempted to reflect on it, or to attribute beauty to it, but where they reach us is at a deeper level, where esthetic judgement and human identity disappear, and flesh becomes the natural state."
Personal comment of Morag Deyes about Flesh
Artistic director of Dance Base, UK
"I am delighted to offer a personal and professional recommendation for the performance of the above named artists, who appeared in a duet entitled Flesh, by invitation in our 2016 Edinburgh Fringe programme. This duet was impeccably performed, full of depth, power and choreographic originality. The costume design chosen enhanced a sense of vulnerability and then paradoxically, of female strength. Exposed from the waist up and reminiscent of martial arts from waist to feet, they exuded an ancient and primal energy. In addition the artistic excellence we enjoyed, Dance Base as an organisation found both performers to be a delight to host in a very busy festival context. Both artists were professional, adaptable and a pleasure to work with ."
Šiaurės Atėnai magazine about Uninvited Presence link
Journal of Culture, Lithuania
"Ugne has shown how the autonomy of the body is unfolding, how it is able to take a particular movement logic, to move like an animal, a plant or an epileptic – not to move from the perspective of a human or an individual. Her body no longer belonged to her, it was transformed into something new, unknown, confusing, causing laughter..."
Ruta Oginskaite about Uninvited Presence link
Jouralist, performing arts critic, Lithuania
"The body of Ugne is well mastered, beautiful and expressive....I was just resigned to hypnosis. The body of Ugne was “playing“ and my eyes were "listening""
Ingrida Gerbutaviciute about Uninvited Presence link
Dance critic, the head of Dance and Movement Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater
"… and it´s expression is not superficial. The body of Ugne certainly conveys the idea that she wants to say."
